Avaya Handsets
IP DECT Phones
Summary
IP DECT mobile devices deliver high-quality wireless voice communications to employees who roam within a building or campus. They offer all the benefits of the DECT standard, including high security, scalability, and low power consumption.
Avaya currently offers two handset models, along with an outdoor and an indoor base station. The base stations have eight voice and four signaling channels, and can be powered directly via the LAN. The indoor stations can also be connected to main power via an optional external adaptor.
The entry-level 3701 handset offers basic telephony features, a 50-entry contact list, multiple ring tones, and support for twelve languages. It has a talk time of twenty hours, and a standby time of 200 hours.
The 3711 handset adds features like a larger display, easy-to-use menus, corporate directory integration and WAP browsing.
Features & Benefits
Use a proven standard
These handsets use the DECT standard, which has been used worldwide for years.
Communicate securely and reliably
DECT incorporates high levels of security, to protect against eavesdropping and unauthorized network access. It supports high densities of wireless voice communications, unaffected by heavy wireless LAN or other radio traffic.
Reduce costs
Standard network connectors and Power-over-Ethernet functionality make implementation and maintenance simple and inexpensive.

Tech Info

Avaya IP DECT solutions leverage the Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) standard pioneered in Europe and recently (2005) approved for use in the United States. The most notable aspects of DECT are:
- Unlike other wireless communications technologies, DECT has a dedicated frequency band thus preventing interference from non-DECT radio sources.
- The technology requires relatively little power enabling DECT handsets to support very long talk times.
- DECT has ample channels to support high density voice communications.
- DECT has strong security. Highly effective subscription and authentication protocols prevent unauthorized access and advanced encryption for protection against eavesdropping.
These characteristics make DECT a compelling technology for businesses seeking to deploy in-building wireless voice communications solutions.
The Avaya IP DECT solution is comprised of the following elements:
- RFP 32 indoor base station
- RFP 34 outdoor base station
- 3701 telephone
- 3711 telephone

Each base station has 8 voice and 4 signalling channels and can be powered over the LAN using the Power over Ethernet PoE standard. Each indoor base station can also optionally be connected to main power via an external power adaptor. Outdoor base stations are used to provide mobile communications in parking lots and other outdoor locations and can only be powered using PoE. These can also be used with external antennae to improve range.
The 3701 handset is a low cost, basic function device, supporting basic telephony features, a 50 entry contact list, multiple ring tones, 12 languages (Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish), and talk time/standby time of 10 hrs./100 hrs.
Avaya recommends that for full feature functionality the 3711 handset be used with the IP DECT solution. In addition to the features supported by the 3701, the 3711 offers a larger display, easy-to-use menus for access to Communication Manager and IP Office features, corporate directory integration, WAP browsing and 10 languages (the 3701-supported languages minus Czech and Norwegian).
The Avaya IP DECT solution will ultimately support up to 256 base stations and over 1000 handsets when used with Communication Manager and up to 32 base stations and 120 handsets when used with IP Office.
